An evocative journey lasting about a couple of hours will catapult you back in time to discover Byzantine remains, burial grounds, ancient houses, shops and wells. This journey into the past has a very specific route that begins from the Norman Swabian Castle and then continues in the sub-corps of the Romanesque San Sabino cathedral until reaching Palazzo Simi , which is the operational center for the archeology of Bari and finally Santa Maria del Buon Advise.
Palazzo Simi
Palazzo Simi was built in 1500 on the remains of a Byzantine style church, which was in turn built on the remains of structures from the Roman era ; Inside are preserved objects found during excavations such as ancient coins and ceramics of different types.
Among the historical finds there are also some objects such as carved stones and funerary vases, dating
back to prehistoric times and found not only in Bari and its surroundings but also in various areas of the Apulian territory .
Furthermore, still through the basement of the Simi palace , you will be able to observe what remains of an ancient Roman style , also recognizable by the typical flooring of the time, and of a Romanesque style church built on the previous Byzantine one.
